Axios: Drew Baglino on Heron's big prototype summer

Next-gen transformer startup Heron Power is building its first 10 engineering prototypes this summer and will deploy some of those with early customers, Heron Power founder and CEO Drew Baglino tells Axios Pro.

Why it matters: The devices will be the first of Heron's hardware to be tested by customers.

What they're saying: "It's a relatively sizable engineering build," says Baglino, who previously led teams developing energy, charging and power train tech at Tesla for 18 years.

Heron will deploy one of the prototypes for testing with a ground-mounted solar system near the company's headquarters in Scotts Valley, California

The prototype pilots will initially be tested with solar and battery systems, because those are easier to execute at small scale, says Baglino.

The first pilot tests with data centers will happen later, closer to 2027.
